While the federal government has made inroads to streamline acquisition methods, procurement processes, and contract vehicles across agencies, most federal agencies retain their own brand of each.

For example, the Department of Defense relies heavily on Other Transactions for many of their heavily-funded “next generation” programs. Other agencies less so. As well, a firm fixed price contract type for a space program can be interpreted and applied very differently than the same contract structure on a transportation project.
